For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.
THE SILENT WARRIOR
Special Forces is an elite highly trained military tactical team that conducts specialized operations such as the Army’s Special Forces, the Green Berets or the U.S. Navy Seals. These are typically composed of small groups of personnel conducting highly operational tactics under principles of self-sufficiency, stealth, speed, and close teamwork.
The kingdom of darkness has been waging spiritual warfare against God’s Kingdom of light since the beginning of time. While God has good plans for his people, Satan’s plans for our lives are laid out in his war room daily to determine how he can achieve his goal to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) the abundant life God has for us.
Intercessors are God’s Special Forces in this battle to defeat Satan. While many pray, and seek God’s guidance in their own lives, an intercessor stands in the gap and prays for others. Moses, Samuel and David, all interceded for Israel, and Abraham interceded for the city of Sodom. The church interceded for Peter’s release from prison. Intercession changes circumstances. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. (Psalm 106:23)
The success of Intercessory Prayer is dependent on unity and knowledge in the use of weapons for engaging and defeating the enemy in battle. Praise is a weapon Satan, nor his imps, can tolerate; it messes them up. Praise ushers in the presence of God, cleansing our minds, allowing His presence to flow, and it builds our faith. The operation of the gifts of the Spirit in Intercessory Prayer is vital. Gifts of wisdom, discernment, prophecy, healing, knowledge and faith give us night vision abilities to see the traps the enemy has set for us. The Word of God, powerful as any two-edged sword, is our war manual. Being able to quote scriptures and having knowledge of the word is not enough. Even Satan knows the word, but he flees when God’s word is spoken with authority and in the name of Jesus. If we abide in Him, and His words abide in us, we will ask what we desire, and it will be done for us. (John 15:7)
We must put on the whole armor of God and utilize the weapons we have at our disposal, fighting side by side in unity to become an army of one. Intercession is focused prayer targeted at a particular need. By praying with the skill of a sniper, this unified army can pull down strongholds and bind spirits before Satan realizes they have entered his territory.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
