This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.
Luke 2:12 NIV
An angelic host announced the arrival to the shepherds in the field. In the distance, wise men from a faraway land marveled at a mysterious star leading them on a journey with destiny. The angels' startling but joyful message along and the extraordinary star would lead to a simple stable. There surrounded in the humblest of dwellings lay God's most precious gift to all mankind.
Many shepherds were scattered throughout the hills of Judaea on that holy night, so why to these particular shepherds did the angels appear ? Were they the only shepherds to believe the angels' astounding message? And why these wise men? Were they the only wise men with courage to take the journey?
Were these the uncommon few who searched with an earnest desire for a sign of this life-changing gift? Were these the rare souls who would willingly abandon their field and their country to go in search of the sign?
This Christmas take the time to step away from all the hustle and bustle of the season to look for the gift that shepherds and wise men still seek. It is God’s priceless and sacrificial gift to you and all humanity - a Savior. Jesus is the Christ of Christmas. The gift that keeps on giving. All around us are signs of His presence - in the beautiful melody of a song; in the uninhibited laughter of a child; or in the quietness of a starlit sky.
The one who is willing to seek Him is the one who will find Him.
